The stations have established an internship program and a mentoring
program. Both programs were created to
provide local high school and college
students with an opportunity to acquire
real world experience and job skills in
the area of broadcasting. Patrick
Welford, a high school senior from
Rogers High School was the latest
participant in the mentoring program.
Additionally, the stations participated in two Business Expos over the
last EEO term. The first expo was held
at the Newport Hyatt Regency in March
and was attended by the General Manager,
Production Manager, Traffic Director,
Account Managers, Office Assistant, and
Chief Engineer. The second expo was
held at the University of Rhode Island
in October was attended by General
Manager and Account Manager. On both
occasions the stations’ staff provided
information about broadcasting in
general and opportunities within the
industry.
The following group of recruitment
resources is used to advertise our
positions. Both WADK and WJZS Radio
Stations run a schedule on the air
asking organizations to send in requests
to be added to the following list. We
did not receive any additional requests
this year.
We did receive a response from two organizations such as Salve Regina
University and the Rhode Island
Department of Labor/ Network Rhode
Island Career Placement Offices. For
example, in working with The Rhode
Island Department of Labor through the
State of Rhode Island, this state-run
organization runs “Network Rhode Island”
Career Offices throughout the Rhode
Island. These career centers have
several locations throughout Rhode
Island and are contemporary offices with
all of the latest technology for finding
a job. These offices have computers,
internet access, fax machines, and
phones free of charge and are made
available to those candidates that are
receiving unemployment benefits through
the State of Rhode Island. Qualified
candidates may apply for positions
available at WJZS/ WADK radio stations
through these Network Rhode Island
offices. The offices are open during
normal business hours throughout the
week and are available on all major bus
routes. Women and minorities are
encouraged to access these facilities.
We did receive two resumes from the
Salve Regina University Career Placement
Office. We did not receive any responses
from Network Rhode Island.
